Race Cooper was a standout among the many hot newcomers that debuted in 2009 and he’s continued to be one of the most exciting, sexy, versatile and talented performers around. He’s made several key appearances in movies and on websites while he ambitiously hosts & stars in his own site Edger 9. When he isn’t working in film he’s also a sought-after model thanks to his incredibly well-sculpted muscle physique and on-camera presence. We had the pleasure of chatting with this rising star and getting to know him even better and becoming more impressed with someone we already regarded highly.

Jack Manly: Hi Race, thanks for taking the time to chat with us.

Race Cooper: No problemo!

JM: You’re now celebrating your first year in porn...How did it all come about?

RC:  Well, getting into porn was pretty fluid.  Living in San Francisco, you can't swing an arm out without hitting someone involved in porn. So, I've been friends with people in the industry for awhile. There was never any pressure on their part, on me becoming a model.... and I've always been curious. It really started with my friends Bo Matthews and Steve Cruz.

JM:  Cool....so your first experience was XXX  for Steve Cruz & Leif Gobo?

RC:  I got to hear about both of their experiences in the industry, and after asking Steve a number of questions... he suggested that maybe I was ready to do it.  Cast me in XXX as my first film, and away we go!  BTW - working with Steve and Leif is a laugh riot!

JM: Steve & Leif look like they have fun, for sure putting it all together. As for XXX , you & Scott Alexander were perfect together.

RC:  Yeah, it helped that we had already met.  Scott Alexander made my first time easy, because we knew that we had chemistry, and had become friends before the scene.

JM: Speaking of which, how important is it to know your scene partners?

RC: It's not really that important.  There are some partners I've had an amazing time with, that I only got to meet as we were shooting.... but it can help to ease any anxiety on how the shoot will go, if you know them before.

JM: How soon after XXX did you get the idea for Edger 9---or was that already in motion?

RC:  No, it actually took a few months.  I mean I had an idea of starting a website, from the beginning... but really wasn't looking seriously into it.  It actually took a friend of mine, who had started a fisting website, and was seeing all of this new attention I was getting to propose me making a website that would have me as the anchor. At some point we got together, and started hashing an idea about cars and sex, as well as an inter-racial theme, and putting a story line together.... It really came together well.

JM: How would you describe the Edger 9 site to a new fan?

RC: I describe Edger 9 as...Fast cars, Hot guys, Corporate Mafia.  You have to get into the story to know more.

JM:  It looks like you have fun on the site and in your movies and other website appearances. Totally uninhibited & sexually joyful. Would you say that's an accurate reflection of you in real life?

RC:  Pretty much.  I learned a long time ago that life is short. So, I try to enjoy it to the fullest, and when I'm being filmed in the moment... I'm there. I've always been a sexual person, and kinda crazy when it comes to leaping head first into stuff sexually.  So, after knocking down the porn door, there's really no stopping me.

JM:  There's a definite energy in your work. In Dirty! you & Ty LeBeouf look like you had such a good time. How does a scene that turns out so well work? Was there a script or were you just told to go for it? 

RC:  Steve and Leif gave us a few guidelines for what they wanted in the scene.... but most of it Ty and ad-libbed.  I've had a porn crush on Ty for a long time... so there were a few things I wanted to do with besides just fucking and sucking.  I think I mentioned to Steve that we should be drinking beer, and that I should have a 40 ounce.  I knew sooner or later we'd have to take a piss... and I really wanted to drink Ty's.

JM:  Okay, so who are your other porn crushes (today & all-time?)

RC:  Oooh... that could be a long list.  Okay... here goes. Drake Jaden, Junior Stellano, Ricky Sinz, Ty LeBeouf, Tober Brandt, Aaron Ridge, JR Matthews... to name a few.

JM:  Great taste! Who would you say are your influences and./or mentors?

RC:  Well, Steve Cruz is right up there.  I credit him with being my mentor a great deal.  He's remarked in the past, that we tend to influence each other... I don't know, we connect on an artistic level.  ChiChi LaRue is the other person I'm in complete adoration of.... she's a goddess!

JM: Cool...we're assuming that your crushes are also guys you'd like to work with too. Are there others that you'd like to work with that you haven't yet?

RC:  Yeah, looking forward to working with Conner Habib.  He's a great friend... so I know we'll have a blast. Other than that, I have a feeling Austin Wilde and I would be pretty good together.

JM: For sure! You've also done some interesting work for KinkMen.com (Naked Kombat, Bound Gods, Butt Machine Boys) All of these scenes looked like a lot of work & required lots o' stamina. How much different is it to do this kind of material?

RC: Yeah, you definitely need your Wheaties before. There's a lot of physicality involved in the KinkMen.com shoots.  They actually make sure that you eat something before, which is unheard of in porn.

JM: Obviously you're in amazing shape and look terrific in and out of clothes. Besides this what else do you think sets you apart from other performers?

RC: I can take a lot of pain, so the Butt MachineBoys, and BoundGods isn't as much work as NakedKombat.  Even when I win those fights, I'm completely exhausted and it's hard to draw on more energy to fuck the guy afterward.  Van Darkholme is a task master... whom I completely respect. So working with him is different, then working with other studios, which tend to make sure to keep things light on set.

JM:  Seems you've done a lot of different kinds of stuff in a short period of time. Anything else you'd like to try in films that you haven't yet? Or a different type of movie?

RC: I'd definitely like to do more of an acting role in a Raging Stallion film.  I think I got the chops for it. As far as sexually, the only thing I haven't done is a threesome on set... Seems weird... I know.

JM:  Not so weird. Actually we were thinking a movie with a script would be perfect for you. You're such a natural.

RC:  Thanks! I appreciate that.... at some point I have to utilize my drama classes from college.

JM: Okay, speaking of your sexy body, we have to ask: Bacon doughnuts? Really? How do you eat this sinfully sexy stuff (Note: Alessio Romero brings them from LA to his porn buds when he comes to SF—JM) and still have what we consider a perfect body.

RC:  Ha ha! Oh yeah.... that seems to be our gang's latest achilles heel. I've never been one to diet... In fact I have a major sweet tooth.  My hubby has gotten me to eat more nutritionally, and cut out fast food most of the time... but I think I'm genetically blessed.  My friends hate the fact that I can eat ice cream and cookies before bed.

JM: Haha...They couldn't hate you...

RC: I love my buds!  Tony Aziz, Samuel Colt, Alessio Romero.... are the fucking SHIT!

JM:   Yes..and some of OUR faves too. Now that you guys are friends how difficult would it be to work together?

RC: Hmmm... funny thing is.... for Tony, Alessio and I... we can work together no problem.  Samuel and I are pretty close, so close that we regard each other as twins (we're born a day apart), so that might be weird.  But if a studio wanted to cast us together... I'm sure we could make it through.  I mean if the Peters Twins can do it....

JM:  Of course! BTW, you do have a hubby as you mentioned....How accepting is he of your current career.

RC:  Before I even went into it... I talked to him first.  He's the best husband in the world, and his only concern was for me.  He asked me a couple of questions, and when I told him why I wanted to.... he said okay.  Then he added, "Go make some money, bitch!"

JM:  Even though it's been only a year you've probably developed a fan following. What has that been like?

RC:  Cool! I mean I didn't know what to expect as far as fans... but I think it helps that I do so many different things, because my fans are as varied as the things I like to do!  Also, they're fucking smart!  I really enjoy the comments that I get on my blog, in respect to their perspectives on porn media, politics and society as a whole.

JM:  Yes you mentioned other things like your blog (terrific btw ), politics, etc. You also have done some very interesting modeling...Do you enjoy this and want to do more?

RC:  Yes, definitely.  I've been modeling off and on since I was 17, and I have both a brother and sister who are commercial photographers... so I've always been interested in the image industry.  I'm a big fan of artistic photography in general, have studied a bit in college, and tend to connect with photographers because I get what they're trying to convey without them saying so.

JM:  It certainly shows....Are there new photo shoots coming up? And what else do you have coming up that we should look forward to seeing?

RC: There's an editorial for UnZipped/Men Magazine that should be coming up... I'm not sure when it will be up, but I look forward to seeing it.  Also, there's a new coffee table book that I'm in by photographer Mark Henderson... should be out next year.  Other than that. looking to possibly shoot with famed photographer  Henning von Berg very soon. I'm pretty excited!

JM: What about videos coming up or on your schedule? 

RC:  No new movies just as yet, Black Balled 7 just got released.... but I have an upcoming live video on MenLive.com on February 7th.

JM: And your site of course...

RC: But of course.... that keeps the porn wheels greased, and humming! Have a new video with Christopher Venice on the site now... and upcoming one with Tony Aziz and I taking turns on him.

JM:  Edger 9 is like a long serialized story What else is coming up there on the site?

RC: I don't know if want to give too much away.... but we definitely want to start building up the action with fights, deaths, and double-crossing

JM: Okay, we mentioned the sinful foods....any other "guilty pleasures" ?

RC: Pot. Kinda goes hand in hand with food though.

JM:  If it becomes legal will it even be a guilty pleasure anymore?

RC: Nah, I guess not.... but you know gay guys will figure out a way to make it guilty again....like shooting liquid THC into their rectum or something like that.

JM: Anything else your fans should know about you..or what else you’ve got going?

RC: Yes, I can be quite a joker at times, and have a sick and twisted sense of humor...... so be warned.
